Este video contiene los consejos de una estudiante que presentó el TOEFL y da unos interesantes insights sobre la prueba en particular sobre los que se refiere a la mecanica de la sección, que en sí que a veces no parece ayudar demasiado a los tomantes del prueba debido a lo intrincada que es sobre todo en lo referente a los muy cortos tiempos para preparar y dar las respuestas. Como instructor de TOEFL me parece que estos comentarios son testimonio de lo que todos los que trabajamos con TOEFL sabemos: Hay que ir bien entrenado en cuanto a los tiempos y formatos de respuestas mas allá de lo que es el manejo del idioma.

Writing task 1 (a report)

We were given a floor plan of two theaters, in 2003 and after their renovation in 2008. We had to compare and describe the changes.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

The funds for postgraduate research are limited, therefore some people think that financial support from the government should be provided. However, only scientific research should be funded, rather than other, less useful subjects. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a report)

Takers were given a diagram and a graph showing some details about employees and self-employed, men and women in the UK in 2011. The diagram described their working hours and attitude to work. We were asked to explain and summarise all the data.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

At present the media affects people’s lives significantly. What impact does this have on the society? Is it a negative or a positive development?

Section 1. A man who has to travel to Arizona was calling one of his friends to ask about the weather, tourist attractions and so on.

Section 2. Two students were talking about their upcoming presentation. The subject was threatened minority languages in the Pacific region.

Section 3. Don’t remember.

Section 4. A monologue about the results of a study of nesting habits of puffins.

Reading test

Passage 1. A description of 6 different markets.

Passage 2. A description of a cultural festival, including performers, opening hours, ticket booking options and so on.

Passage 3. About night shifts, the obligations of employers such as resting time, health assessments and the rights of different types of workers.

Passage 4. About a study carried out on Mt Everest. Mountaineers were studied at different altitudes.

Writing task 1 (a letter)

Your friend is arriving at the city where you live and you offered a ride to him/her from the airport, but you cannot pick him/her up. Write a letter to your friend and say

– Explain your reasons.
– Give him/her advice how to get into the city.
– Tell him/her what you have planned for his/her visit.

Writing Task 2 (an essay)

Some people say that schools should spend more money on computers, others say that more money should be spent on teachers’ wages. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

We were given a line graph and a pie chart. The line graph showed the female prisoners’ population in a European country between 1909 and 2001, while the pie chart illustrated the type of crime committed by the prisoners.
